Veteran Calypsonian Hansill “Richie” Buntin was crowned the 2023 St Thomas Carnival Calypso Monarch last evening.
The St Kitts and Nevis-born Calypsonian delivered two spiriting performances of his songs VI Unity and Vitamin C to receive the judges’ support over 11 other contestants.
Livingston “X-Man” Harris and 2018 champion Lucas “John Gotty” Evans placed second and third.
St Kitts and Nevis Carnival Commission has congratulated Richie, who is
the country’s first Soca Monarch and the 2013 Sugar Mas Calypso Monarch.
“Huge congratulations to Hansill Richie Buntin, the newly crowned Calypso
Monarch of the US Virgin Islands! We wish Richie a successful year of reign and eagerly await his return to the calypso arena in the
Federation!,” the commission said.
