Popular Caribbean radio and television personality, Joan Marie Savoury will be memorialized at a Memorial Service that has been scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2 pm. It will take place at Voices of Faith Ministries located at 2500 Rockbridge Rd SW, Stone Mountain, GA 30087. A Repast will follow immediately at Kozy Kove Restaurant located at 4654 Hope Springs Rd, Stone Mountain 30083.

Ms. Savoury was born on November 2, 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica. She migrated to the USA to follow her dreams of conquering the media world. Joan resided in New York City, San Francisco, and Ft Lauderdale prior to calling Georgia home. Prior to leaving Jamaica, she graduated from Camperdown High School. She then furthered her education by attaining an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration at City University of New York, followed by training at Baileys School of Broadcasting.
The Caribbean Oprah was a hugely popular radio/ TV personality, journalist and emcee who was extremely passionate about her fans and career. She worked in assorted roles as a radio host, reporter, news anchor, editor, executive producer, writer, actor, gossip columnist, and talk show host. She worked at a variety of media outlets such as the Gleaner Newspaper; Soulbeat International Television Network; Caribbean National Weekly; WAVS, Real Deal Radio, WGFS; WATB and WIGO, where she hosted the Savory Show. As an actor Joan Tasty and Delicious Savoury was featured in an American Express training video showcasing her very outgoing, vibrant and colorful personality.
Joan was extremely passionate about community service. She spearheaded the US Census Media Committee for the Caribbean community in 2010. Additionally, she contributed her time and talents to several cultural organizations. She was a member of the Caribbean Association of Georgia (CAG) and the Caribbean International Business Group (CIBG).
On June 8, 2011 while at her home in College Park Georgia, Joan Savoury departed this earth to be with the Lord. She leaves behind loving daughters Denise Walters of Charlotte, NC and Aisha Savoury of San Francisco, CA; sons-in law Jamal Walters and Michael Jordon; grandchildren Jaylin, Shedrick, Rayven and Rhyan; sister Joy Lynch-Small of Yuba City, CA; brother-in-law Paul Small; nephew Peter; nieces Cammile and Shanise; and a host of adoring relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Gwen Farquarson.
