Long-time New York City Educator and new author Kimberly Wallace releases her first children’s book entitled “Grandma’s Chocolate Cake”. Wallace drew from her many experiences growing up in a large extended family to create a very imaginative story rich in family tradition and love. Wallace’s book just released in soft cover will captivate readers young and old with lessons learned and laughter.

This story which was inspired by true events was designed to promote literacy amongst a technology driven generation. Although this book is officially a children’s book, it can be appreciated by all ages with its witty storyline, eclectic array of characters and cravings for delicious chocolate cake.

In this delightful story, Grandma Lily Mae Leonard is known for her delicious chocolate cakes. It is the most gratifying homemade cake anyone has ever tasted in town. It is rich and thick, with creamy chocolate icing made from scratch. Grandma, one of the main characters, has just baked her granddaughter Angie a delicious chocolate cake for her birthday. Angie gets caught-up with making an impression on the popular girls. When Angie hears about her cake she has to make a choice of whether to go get her chocolate cake, or stay in the park with the popular kids Freda and Kelly. She ignores Donnies message that her cake is ready and Grandma is waiting. When she arrives at Grandmas house, Angie is in for a big surprise!

When asked where her creativity stems from Wallace responds, “The commitment, loyalty, humor, values, and tradition of family as well as a community produces a legacy of greatness. My creativity is a product of a great family.” Recently at her launch event Wallace took pictures and discussed literacy and her book with Brooklyns favorite Borough President Marty Markowitz.

Her first venture into the competitive children’s fiction book market was a long time in the making, but was finally realized in early December 2011. Wallace has always had an interest in writing and used her background in the New York City Public School system as a foundation.
