Neo-Soul singer/songwriter Erykah Badu is named the face of Givenchy’s Spring 2014 collection! Italian fashion designer Riccardo Tisci himself personally extended this amazing opportunity to Erykah. They both have been fans of each other’s style/fashion for quite sometime now. Erykah is the perfect muse for his collection which is very eclectic and fiery just like Erykah!

As we already know Tisci, the Creative Director of Givenchy is a big advocate of using African American models in his shows and has been very vocal about the disparities of black models on the runways. He used all African American models for his Spring 14 show in Milan as well as Swiss designer Philipp Plein. He has discovered models such as Joan Smalls and Maria Borges through his use of diversity in his fashion shows. African American models seem to be trendy now a days. Let’s hope it is not just fad but another opportunity for advancement of women of color in the world of fashion.

Tisci’s concept for the collection is Asian and African American influenced. Erykah Badu is stylish and an icon, I would call her a “Stylecon”! The pairing of these 2 creative minds is going to be interesting to see, but I am sure the end result will be fabulous!
