Jamaica’s Yohan Blake and Veronica Campbell-Brown have been selected as the Central American and Caribbean Athletes of 2011 by the region’s athletics governing body, the CAC Athletics Confederation.
World 100m champion Blake beat the likes of countryman and IAAF Athlete of the Year Usain Bolt to the award.
In addition to winning the world 100m title, Blake ran the 3rd leg on Jamaica’s men’s world record winning sprint relay at the world championships and also ran the 2nd fastest time ever of 19.26 seconds for the 200m at the Brussels Diamond League meet.
Campbell-Brown was selected CAC Female Athlete of the Year after collecting her first world title over 200meters at the Daegu Championships.
She also took silver in the 100m and anchored Jamaica to the silver in the women’s sprint relay at the world championship.
