BountyKillaatBestofBest2009Grammy Award winning Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy’s annual benefit concert  turned ugly this year when dancehall deejay Bounty Killa took the stage.  Bounty Killa made popular by his bad man, gangsta lyrics, came on stage after his Gully/Alliance labelmate Mavado pledged 250,000.   Bounty came out after Mavado said he could only make the pledge his “daddy” did too.   Once on stage, Bounty went on a tirade about who he didn’t want around him, etc and mouthed off using very indecent language.  The audience filled with some of Jamaica’s most prominent people including government officials was appalled and outraged at his outburst.   Shaggy came on stage and ended the show and the tirade abruptly.  What a shame!!

Its a New Year though because in a very surprising turn of events, Bounty apologized.  Here’s a compilation of  the apology tweets:

big people ting, we realise we made a mistake and are apologising to Shaggy, the sponsors, benefactors and all in attendance.

After nearly 20 years @ the top of the Jamaican music industry I av been involved in many battles – sometimes with fellow artists, sometimes with outside forces n sumtimes wid d state an its politicians. Ive learnt 2 choose my battles wisely an the grounds upon which 2 fight them. I’ve also learnt when to admit I didnt choose my ground wisely and Saturday night’s Shaggy & Friends’ show was one of those occasions. With so many politicians an membas of the upper echelons of corporate Jamaica present, an audience I rarely get the ears of, I got caught up in the moment while expressing myself. I now realise it was inappropriate and extend my apologies to Shaggy, his sponsors, benefactors and all in attendance who were offended by my performance. Alliance made a pledge to donate $250,000 to the cause and we will follow through on that promise and continue to support Shaggy and answer his call whenever he reaches out.  ~Bounty Killer
