Last night, Jamaican reggae songstress Tessanne Chin made history when she won Season 5 of ‘The Voice”. Tessanne Chin’s win comes as no surprise to me. “Tessy” as she is affectionately called by her closest confidantes had all of Jamaica and the Caribbean Diaspora behind her. There was no way that we would let Tessanne not win!
The night was a memorable one for the 28-year old Chin. Not only did the night see her win The Voice, but Tessanne Chin got to perform a duo with her idol, Celine Dion. Tessanne was so happy when she got the news that she was overwhelmed with emotion and began to cry but nothing topped the experience of winning.
“It is out of body,” Chin said, holding her trophy backstage after the NBC singing competition. “I feel like, is this really happening, you know? This can’t be real. Like unbelievable. Unbelievable.
I was literally at the end of a road, you know, and coming to a place in my life where I was like, am I going to keep doing this and feeling like I’m not getting anywhere? Or am I going to give this another shot? And thank God, thank God I was able to give it another shot,” she said.
The best thing about the win for me is that Tessanne Chin comes across as a humble and kind person. Congratulations Tessy — luv dat!
