In the 70th birth year of the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley O.M, the vision and legacy of the iconic Reggae artiste and humanitarian, continues to touch the lives of those most vulnerable. The Robert Marley Foundation and The Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment Foundations, URGE, have partnered for the Marley for Health Project. The Marley for Health Project seeks to provide medical machines for select health facilities with the aim of improving the facilities service delivery.
The Robert Marley Foundation and URGE, have selected the following institutions; Women’s Links Network Jamaica, St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital and the Bustamante Children’s Hospital as beneficiaries of the project.
The donations will include, but will not be limited to: Chairs, Oximeters, Fetal and Maternal Monitors, Portable Ultra Sound Systems, Blood pressure machines among others.
The announcement was made at the recent 70th birthday celebrations of the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, held at his former home at the Bob Marley Museum. General Manager of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, Mrs. Marie Bruce, along with the Robert Marley Foundation’s Relations Manager Alicia Williams, made the announcement, that over fifteen million Jamaican dollars worth of some much needed equipment, will go to the medical institutions.
According to Manager of the Robert Marley Foundation, Ms. Alicia Williams, “The Robert Marley Foundation and URGE, are pleased to extend this to the Women’s Links Network Jamaica, St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital and the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, institutions who are charged with the care of the nations people
This project is in keeping with the vision of the Honorable Robert Marley this donation will no doubt assist the beneficiaries with the services they offer daily”.
In expressing gratitude for the donation, Deputy chief Executive Officer at the Kingston Public and Victoria Jubliee Hospital, Jaqueline Ellis stated “The team wishes to thank the Bob Marley Foundation and URGE for selecting us as one the benefactors for the needed donations. This will definitely improve the delivery of quality patient care”.
Dr. Rudolph Stevens, Executive Director at the Womens Health Network (WHN) expressed gratitude to the Marley family for the donation of a portable ultrasound to facilitate the work of the WHN NGO in communities across Jamaica. Dr. Stevens noted that “the machine is the single most important equipment that our volunteer doctors will have to diagnose menstrual abnormalities as well as to provide assessment of pregnancy conditions. It will impact significantly on the health of women by giving them access to earlier diagnosis and treatment without their having to spend on transportation to a health facility”
An official press conference and handing over ceremony will be held, with an official date to be announced.
