From Africa to the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific too, Roy “Gramps” Morgan has performed for sold out stadiums around the world with his 4 siblings, the other members of the internationally renowned reggae band, Morgan Heritage. After nearly three decades together, collectively solidifying fan bases in almost every continent on the planet, releasing 10 albums and 3 DVDs while performing for millions of people worldwide, Gramps flourished into a successful solo artist.

Gramps begun his solo career on a high note by touring on India Arie’s Soulbird Tour. While remaining dedicated to conscious Roots Reggae & Lovers Rock, his mission to expand his horizons to new markets was a success. In a time when reggae music was in a state of dejection and dancehall lyrics were redundant, Gramps Morgan proved positive music can still top the charts; and did with Wash the Tears, the first single from his solo album, 2 Sides of My Heart Vol.1. The single earned Gramps at #1 on Canadian Reggae and Dancehall Charts (Radio Dubplate) for 3 consecutive weeks on CHRY 105.5 FM. Soon afterwards the single was charting simultaneously across the world. As composed, written and produced on his own label Dada Son Entertainment, the multi-dimensionality of Gramps Morgan was revealed.

The release of the album, 2 Sides of My Heart Vol.1 proved that Gramps is an artist to be reckoned with as he hit the road with the likes of Kymani Marley, Buju Banton, and John Legend. Gramps exceeded fans expectations as they were always yearning to hear more from his Morgan Heritage role. From songs of sweet love to inspiration of the youths, all 16 songs had an organic tone with solid production. Numerous nominations and awards resulted from his first album as Gramps found himself amongst the top of the Reggae game.

Gramps then ‘came into his own’ with the release of his 2nd solo album, Reggae Music Lives. His royalty is displayed as he brings power to his music with songs from African unity to love and relationships. He put his heart and soul into this album and touched a mixture of sounds by collaborating with powerhouse hit makers such as Llamar ‘Riff Raff’ Brown, Kemar
‘Flava’ McGregor, and again with India Arie. Gramps quickly became a high demand reggae performer while the album hit #12 on the Billboard Reggae Charts.

People are saying… “Gramps Morgan possesses one of the most unique and distinctive voices in modern reggae, his tone is unmistakeable which makes his overall sound highly desirable, if you love real reggae”.

Cutting short his Reggae Music Lives campaign, Gramps snagged 3 International Reggae and World Music Awards (Irawma) in 2010 including Best Song, Best New Entertainer, and Best Crossover Song. And, most notably of his time from Morgan Heritage, Gramps’ musical diversity was acknowledged by the pinnacle of musical accolades with 2 Grammy Award Nominations and as a Grammy Award Winning Producer. Gramps had achieved what his father had always told him he would do and was eager to take Morgan Heritage to such heights.

Morgan Heritage resurfaced forcefully with the release of Here Come the Kings in 2013, the perfect blend of Nyabinghi sounds, lovers rock, and roots. And, as much as their absence had allowed for evolvement of the reggae genre, Morgan Heritage’s collective roots sound was clearly missed by fans. The album made the band’s highest debut on the Billboard Reggae Charts at #2, with the single Perfect Love Song topping reggae charts world wide.

“The roots is the essence of who we are as humanity”, said the band when questioned about their return.

Strikingly, their first album independently under label Cool to Be Conscious (CTBC), Morgan Heritage released their Grammy Award Winning Album, Strictly Roots. The masterpiece album sky rocketed to #1 on the Billboard Charts and continues to remain competitive amongst the best reggae albums of all times. The Royal Family extends their longevity as the Rolling Stones of Reggae with frequent song release and constant touring far and wide.

Concurrently, Gramps somehow finds the time to embark upon refertilization of his solo projects with plans to share his past, present, and future music with the world. His unique and diversifying sound will blend with genres and artists from different walks of music. Gramps Morgan fans are definitely in for a treat.

In addition to revamping his solo act, Gramps will present new music from Dada Son Entertainment, starting with son Jemere Morgan’s first album Transitions, to be released in January 2017. The works are fully underway for Gramps as he prepares his new talents with a promising fresh sound. This passionate business man, with ventures in coffee and seasonings, feels he is at the peak of his career and urges the world to be ready to witness him heal the world through his music.
