The standing-room only trendy loft was filled with New York Citys finest fashionistas and fashionistos! John Paul shared with me in an RCS ALL ACCESS exclusive backstage interview that the collection was inspired by the three-time Tony award winning Broadway play Fela (executive produced by Sean Jay-Z Carter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett).

The runway show began with live upbeat rhythmic African drum playing which continued throughout the show. This set the tone for Bold in Africa designs which featured bold colors, vibrant metallics and flowing chiffon – breathtaking! The subtle touches of Africa were accented throughout the collection with headdresses and kente cloth. Many folks from the arts and fashion community were in the house including fashioneer and New York stylist Dawn Holloway.

We will definitely be seeing more of John Paul Pierre in the future. Check out our full interview coming up on Lyme Tyme with Red Carpet Shelley.
