John Paul Ataker presented his Spring/Summer 2018 C at New York Fashion Week Collection which he coined “slow fashion”. He is stating that “it is about being purposeful and realizing that fewer is better and healthier both for humankind and our planet”. Inspiration came from the rich culture of the Black Sea Zone of Turkey which drew from the wardrobe of the native people.
Everything looked well thought out and had a lot of meaning behind each garment. The fabrics ranged from cotton, linen, organza and viscose. There were also intricate hand sewn details that went into the apparel. Though the color palette was minimalist (black, ivory and white) the designs were striking. There was a lot of texture and exaggerated details. Again we see the presence of ruffles and sheer fabrics trending for the Spring/Summer 18 season.
This collection was very different to me than the previous seasons, as the designer stepped outside of the box and seemed to create more conscious designs. He also had super model Karlie Kloss close the show with a show stopping gown that was very ethereal and goddess like. She practically glided across the runway effortlessly in this fabulous piece. I have seen growth and versatility within the designer ‘s style and it can only keep getting better!
