Denroy Morgan, Jamaican reggae icon, walked away a free man from District Court in lower Manhattan this week.   Morgan who was charged with marijuana possession (25 pounds) appears to be highly favored and protected as he was given only 90 days’ probation and a court filing charge of US$25.  Who Jah bless….

Morgan is the patriarch of one of reggae’s most acclaimed bands, Morgan Heritage was facing a prison term of up to 20 years and fines of up to US$300,000.

“I am completely aware of my bad judgement in this issue and I want to express gratitude the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to whom I sent up unending prayers, wanting for a merciful conclusion in this matter,” said Morgan.  “Once afresh, my God has verified that as he stood by Daniel in the lion’s den, he has also stood by me in my hour of need,” he proceeded.

Morgan’s defense attorney, Sabrina T. Shroft, did a great job!  Shroft opted for a plea bargain of misdemeanor possession, arguing that her client had no intention of distribution of marijuana and the weed was strictly for spiritual use (isn’t that what EVERYONE uses it for???)

Not only did the judge sign, seal and deliver the case closed, he wished Denroy Morgan continued success in his career!!!  That’s what I’m talking about!

Morgan is best know for his smash hit single “I’ll Do Anything For You” and is slated to perform December 22 in New York for Christmas In The Rockaways, a Hurricane Sandy relief concert.  Also, look out for his upcoming auto-biography called Shepherd of A Man.

I am happy that Denroy Morgan walked free and I, along with the judge, wish him continued success!
