Cuba’s national baseball team will face the Baltimore Orioles this year, at a date yet to be fixed.
The president of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), Antonio Becali, told the press that there will be an exhibition game with the Orioles, which will take place on the island during 2015.
Becali said that in recent months other top baseball teams in the US have expressed their interest in playing against the Cuban team.
The Baltimore Orioles made history 16 years ago as the first Major League Baseball (MLB) team to play against a Cuban rival since 1959, by staging a two-game friendly series, held in both countries. The US squad won 3-2 in the first game, held at Havana’s Latin American Stadium on March 28, 1999, while on May 3 of that same year Cuba defeated the Baltimore Orioles 12-6, at Oriole Park, Camden Yards, in Baltimore.
