What the Frig?
This week’s WTF Award goes to Vybz Kartel who has decided that light, bright almost white is preferable to his original God created dark skin. According to rollingout.com, the very talented dancehall star claims that he used a cake soap to achieve this lightening.
However, Dr Dhiru Tanna, chairman of the soap company denies any such claims. Blue soap does not bleach. It has no ingredients in it that damages the skin, Tanna said. If anybody is saying that it will discolor the skin or take off pigmentation that is absolutely not true, he told the Business Observer.
After receiving much criticism, Vybz Kartel defended his actions in a recent interview. “You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.” I think Vybz has missed the proverbial boat on this one.
The historical, social and cultural reasons against this argument are far and wide. Besides even if this weren’t the case, white people tan to look better, Vybz looks worse.
Stop the self hatred, please!!! I’m hoping this is some sort of prank and Kartel really is comfortable in his own skin.
