To promote new non-stop Delta Air Lines flights from Atlanta, Georgia to St. Croix, The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Tourism (DOT) partnered with the Atlanta Braves. On September 25, USVI Day with the Atlanta Braves was replete with authentic steel pan music, loads of giveaways, roaming Mocko Jumbies and the Caribbean Ritual Dancers who entertained the crowd with their festive costumes and dancing.
The piece de resistance, however, was a pre-game performance in Fan Plaza by Virgin Islands native, Pressure Busspipe, the recording artist behind the ‘Virgin Islands Nice” song heard in this summer’s USVI advertising campaign. As Pressure performed the memorable song, the crowd sang along with him, many of them of proud Virgin Islanders. It seemed that everyone in attendance enjoyed the show and the display of Caribbean culture!
The new non-stop flights with Delta Air Lines from Atlanta to St. Croix will run weekly, on Saturdays, December 20, 2014 through August 15, 2015. The new service, operating on a MD88 aircraft with 149 available seats, is part of a partnership between the DOT and Delta Air Lines to bolster access into the Territory, particularly to St. Croix.
During the game, as a special treat, the DOT hosted key media, meeting planners, investors and VIP contacts from the Atlanta area to share more of the Territory’s story. The suite was sweet and the food was delicious.
Thank you to Beverly Nicholson-Doty, Bevan Springer and the entire USVI DOT team! A splash was definitely made in Atlanta, the reverberations of which will hopefully be felt on the sandy beaches of the U.S. Virgin Islands!
