Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete previewed a screening of their new reality TV show this week, “For Peete’s Sake,” that will be premiering on the OWN Network on Saturday, March 19th at 9pm. The intimate, invite-only viewing took place at the Core Club in New York City. The show focuses around her family and their day-to-day life as the Peetes.
Holly Robinson Peete and and her NFL hubby Rodney Peete, have been married 20 years and are a power couple force to be reckoned with. The pair were two of the brightest stars in their fields in the 80’s and 90’s. Holly lit up the small screen from an early age with starring roles in “21 Jump Street” and “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper,” and her husband and NFL quarterback Rodney Peete dominated the league for 16 years. Now the duo are giving viewers an intimate look at their hectic and often-times comical lives as they attempt to balance raising their four kids, running a charity (the HollyRod Foundation) and spending time with Holly’s über-manager mother Dolores who is still wheeling and dealing even as she approaches 80 years young.
The premiere episode takes place at the Peete household where the family bonds over a home cooked meal prepared by Holly. The meal is a weekly family ritual offering an opportunity for parents to field a list of random questions from their children while around the dinner table — definitely brings them together. This is a tradition that has been lost with society today.
Also in this episode, Rodney is trying to surprise his wife for their 20th anniversary, but doesn’t have a clue or a plan in place; all the while her fabulous 80 year-old mother is having the kids design her next tattoo! Their teen-aged daughter, Ryan is also trying to convince her parents to let her go to Chicago for Lollapalooza. All of these scenarios make for a good show filled with lots of laughs and hi-jinks.
It’s great for the entire family to watch, no matter what age or race. Her children range in age from 18 year old twins, Ryan and RJ to her two youngest boys 14 year old Robinson and 11 year old Roman. They deal with the same issues that all regular everyday families come across. Holly said it best at the screening that they are a cross between “Run’s House” and “Blackish”. They have fun while dealing with issues that are in today’s mainstream society.
Holly is a mother, actress, author, advocate and philanthropist. One of her children, RJ was diagnosed with autism at age 3, and she has not let that stop her or him from facing challenges that they are faced with. She has also published 2 books surrounding the topic of raising an autistic child. Her second book “Same but Different” written by herself and her twin children focus on teen life and autism. The book was given to the guests in attendance.
In parting, I must say that I absolutely enjoyed this program and the question and answer segment afterwards with Holly and Rodney. They seem like very ordinary people who happen to live an extraordinary life, but are still very much grounded. I encourage and recommend that you and your family tune in this Saturday and continue to support series for the rest of the season.
