On August 16, the Atlanta Jamaican Association Inc. (AJA)  in collaboration with the AJ Scholarship Fund held their Annual Independence Ball and Scholarship Awards.

The event, held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, was attended by Jamaican and Caribbean tastemakers, businesspersons and media.   The keynote address was given by Richard O. Byles, President and CEO of Sagicor Group, Jamaica LTD (he is also Chairman of Red Stripe).

Some of the highlights of the night included the scholarship presentations.  One scholarship went to a young engineering scholar who graduated from Wheeler High School in Marietta GA.  His young resume, so impressive that as he begins his college career at Georgia Institute of Technology (commonly referred to as Georgia Tech) he has already been named a scholar.  Another highlight was the moving tribute given to the late, great former president of the AJA Hon. Vin Martin.

Live Entertainment was provided by Caribbean Music Farm Band along with DJ Stanman.
