As you walk into the building for the Indonesian Diversity Fashion Show for NYFW 2017 you are greeted with a slim, dark lit room full of eager people. People with head scarves and flowers in hand sat in the front row with a sense of happiness and pride.

When the show starts you are immediately taken in by the upbeat music and the bright greens and blues of a model wearing Dian Pelangi SS18.  She instantly grabs your attention with the colored hijab and mixed patterns. The light fabrics floated behind the models as they strut down the runway.

The show then transitions into a light-hearted runway as models in all white walk out. Barli Asmara SS18 collection is full of lace, buttons, and sheer. The music is Asian themed and has a romantic feeling to it. Lace, ruffles, and off the shoulder designs paired with crystal chandelier earrings bring about a sophisticated sweet aroma. The show stopper was a long dress to the ankles with a sheer top and off the shoulder sleeves, beaded from head to toe and bridal button down the front split.

After the lights flash the music changes into an Asian jungle theme with birds chirping. You become amazed as the model appears with bird-like head pieces and dresses. Melia Wijaya SS18 collection takes you into a trance as the models strut like birds down the runway covered in mesh, feathers, and copper pieces. The artistic components of the accessories really bring the clothes to life.

The show keeps the dramatics as the Catherine Njoo SS18 collection takes the runway with black and gold colors and head pieces. The dresses resemble Asian royalty gowns with sparkling beaded backs, embroidered skirts, and trains. The lights cut off and a model steps out with an egg shaped head piece that glows and opens and closes which was the pinnacle of the collection.

The last collection by Vivi Zubedi SS18 to the show back to a more traditional turn with hijabs and full length dresses. The back of some pieces had embroidered messages on them which caught your eye. The simple lines mixed with the floral prints makes everything relatable  and comfortable.

All of the collections had their own unique traits and do show diversity in fashion which make me very happy to see where fashion goes from here.
