Andre Chrislow of Pudgy Productions, the company that has been mandated to boost the sport of drag racing on the island of Nevis, this week revealed that Nevis is set to be a part of another major first. He indicated that a Caribbean-wide series of drag races is being planned, with Nevis being the host island. If this mega event is successfully executed, it would be the first time that an event of such magnitude has taken place in the Caribbean.

Leading up to the event, certain procedures are being put in place to ensure that the event is a success. This coming Sunday there will be a Mothers Day race at the race track, which will mainly involve drag racers from Nevis. There is a possibility that a few racers may still participate from nearby St Kitts and an observer group will be coming in from Montserrat.

According to Chrislow, close attention will be paid during this meet to the workings of the timing and other devices. He noted that some of the drag racers have expressed concern about the day of the meet as it is recognized as Mothers Day but he noted that it is being advertised as a family day and entire families, including mothers, are being invited to make it a day out at the races.
The next big event will be the grand drag race to be held as part of Win-Fes 2011, which will be held in June. This time around many of the other Caribbean islands are expected to participate and this will serve as a warm up towards the start of the big Caribbean wide series. Here the racers will be able to test their vehicles on the track and get a feel for what racing in Nevis is like.
There will be three big races in total and the vehicles gaining the most points overall will be declared the grand winners in the various categories.
The big series is set to commence with the first big race being a part of the grand 2011 Culturama event in August. The second race is scheduled for independence time in September and the third will be set on a date yet to be determined but may well be early in 2012.
Some of the islands that have already committed to being a part of the mega event are: Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, St Vincent, Dominica, Antigua, Montserrat, Anguilla, St Eustatius, Saba, Tortola and Jamaica. This is in addition to participation from St Kitts and Nevis.
Chrislow said that Jamaica will be sending at least six cars for the event.
He also noted that plans were already well in place and two major sponsors are already on board. One of them is Stag Beer and the other will be revealed at a later date.
Chrislow also indicated that the race meets would also be fully packaged to include high level entertainment segments and noted that some of the drag racers have already agreed to be a part of a drag racing troupe for the Culturama festivities.
In terms of improvements at the track, the race expert also noted that currently a building is under construction that will serve as a work facility and a training facility in auto mechanics. It will also serve as a storage area, especially for the overseas vehicles.
Dont quote me on this but soon and very soon we may also be able to attract a major power boat race to Nevis, added Chrislow.
