Soul Train Award winning reggae superstar Gyptian (aka the Sexy Ras) is set to perform on MTV’s New Year’s Eve celebration. The show will take place on the worlds biggest NYE stage – Times Square!!! Its estimated that over 2 million viewers watch the performances happening in Times Square on NYE. Strangely enough, even though I grew up in New York City, I have never attended any of the NYE festivities. However, this year’s event might be worth my while. Its a historic moment for reggae and Caribbean culture.
By the way, Gyptian is no stranger to performing in Times Square. He headlined MTV’s Iggy Best New Band Concert earlier this week.
Gyptian told IRIE FM: “For Reggae and for us as a little island to be far, it’s a good look. For one of your own to be doing it…how better can it get? It must be better and greater”.
Gyptian admitted that the international success of his award-winning and chart-topping single, Hold Yuh, far exceeded his expectations. “To be honest, I didn’t even kno seh this song wudda be what it be. Wi haffi jus’ sit back and relax and enjoy the good outcome that come outta it. Is a blessing,” he said.
Gyptian is scheduled to perform tonight in New York at SOBs for the Joel Chin tribute show “Strictly The Best”.
