The Dominica Film Office in association with Kaz Kweyol Productions presents the Dominican premiere of the acclaimed film, A Hand Full of Dirt by Barbadian Writer/Director Russell Watson and produced by Lisa Harewood as part of Tourism Awareness Month and DOMFESTA.
The film had its world premiere at the Trinidad and Tobago film Festival last November and has since featured at festivals in New York, L.A., Barbados and Toronto in the Reel World Film Festival where it played to full houses and won the Audience Choice Award. It will also form part of the Zanzibar Film Festival later this year. Watson also won a nomination for Best First Feature Film Director at the Black and African Film Festival in L.A.
Filmed in Chicago and Barbados, A Hand Full of Dirt tells the story of three generations of Caribbean men and what happens when each one is faced with the choice of securing his own future or repeating the betrayals of the family past. This strong story-line has led to lively discussions among viewers and reviewers after all showings.
Dominican cultural icon Alwin Bully carries the lead role along with Antiguan artist, Nigel Scotland and three renowned Barbadian actors Luther Bourne, Marcia Burrows and theatre pioneer Cynthia Wilson.
A Hand Full of Dirt will have one showing at the Arawak House of Culture on Friday May 20, 2011 at 7pm. Entrance Fee $20.00. Tickets will be available at Bulls Eye Pharmacy on Federation Drive. Director Russell Watson along with lead actors Alwin Bully and Nigel Scotland will be present to share their experiences on the making of the film and its impact on audiences so far.
