Last weekend, the Atlanta Dekalb Carnival held its official launch for the 2018 carnival season. Many of the mas bands participated — some were traditional with many years of experience on the road (Calabash Alley) and some non-traditional embracing other musical genres besides soca for their on the road experience (Reggaematic Mas).
U.S. Virgin Islands soca star Pumpa performed however he didn’t take the stage until VERY late in the program. I was at the venue five hours and neither Pumpa nor Steelie Bashment had yet to come on stage so I left and missed both. Despite that little hiccup the event went very smoothly and was well attended.
Don’t miss the parade, arts and crafts, music, mas and, of course, Caribbean food! For more information visit: Atlanta Dekalb Carnival.
