Over Memorial Day weekend, Atlanta came alive with the vibrant celebration of the 38th Annual Atlanta Caribbean Carnival, hosted by the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Bandleaders Association (ACCBA). From May 23 to May 26, 2025, the city pulsed with the rhythms of Soca, Reggae, and Dancehall, honoring the rich and diverse cultures of the Caribbean diaspora.

Honoring Trinidad and Tobago

This year’s Carnival paid tribute to Trinidad and Tobago—the birthplace of modern Caribbean Carnival. The festivities featured cultural showcases, culinary delights, and musical performances that honored the twin-island nation’s legacy.

The Parade: A Spectacle of Color and Sound

On Saturday, May 24, the streets of downtown Atlanta transformed into a dazzling display of Caribbean flair. The parade began at Truist Plaza and made its way through the heart of the city to the Festival Village at Rodney Cook Sr. Park in Historic Vine City.  Masqueraders in radiant costumes, vibrant music trucks, and spectators waving flags from across the Caribbean made the day unforgettable.

Festival Village Highlights

Following the parade, the celebration continued at Rodney Cook Sr. Park, where thousands gathered for music, food, and cultural expression. Highlights included live performances from A-List, stellar artists like Nailah Blackman, Olatunji, GBM Nutron, Nessa Preppy, Skinny Fabulous, D’Angel, Kiprich, and Korra Obidi who represented for Nigeria and the African Diaspora.  The crowd was getting on bad all throughout the day and night including many dancers jumping on stage to showcase their whining prowess!

Festival-goers indulged in Caribbean favorites like jerk chicken, curry goat, roti, and doubles.  I decided to have something different…BBQ ribs!

There were loads of vendors showcasing handmade crafts with Caribbean flags on almost everything! Caribbean fashion and artisan goods were also on display making for a lively and colorful shopping experience.

Earlier in the month, the Children’s Carnival took place on May 10 at Historic Fourth Ward Park. Kids participated in a colorful mini-parade, played games, and enjoyed age-appropriate performances—a perfect introduction to Carnival for the next generation.

The 2025 Atlanta Caribbean Carnival was more than just a party—it was a powerful celebration of heritage, unity, and pride. From the pulsating Soca music to the elaborate costumes and joyful community spirit, it was a weekend to remember. Whether you were a first-time attendee or a returning masquerader, Atlanta Carnival 2025 left hearts full and feet sore—from dancing, of course.
