Just over a year after an American Airlines plane crashed at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, an American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport in Jamaica on Saturday afternoon after it developed engine trouble.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that the CAA said the flight, which was heading from Quito, Ecuador, to Miami, Florida, landed safely at 2.14 p.m. The American Airlines flight was travelling over the Cayman Islands when it reportedly developed the engine problems.
The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) said it has been in contact with American Airlines officials as part of the investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, director of the JCAA, Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Derby, said the flight will not be allowed to leave the airport until the JCAA is satisfied that the aircraft is safe.
