Couple Claims Baby Suffered Psychological Problems
R&B diva Patti LaBelle reportedly hurled curses and half a bottle of water at a woman and her 18-month-old daughter after a confrontation over parenting in an apartment building lobby, according to a lawsuit filed Monday by the family’s lawyer. According to Samuel L. Davis, attorney for Kevin and Roseanna Monk, the couple’s 18-month old has suffered emotionally and psychologically as a result of Ms. LaBelle’s actions.
“The babys never been exposed to anything like that before. She started crying violently. She started throwing up. Well, we know babies never throw up right? They also claim that The baby had a hard time with this. She started not sleeping through the night. She had issues with loud noises and strangers. Babies always sleep through the night right??
I don’t know what exactly happened but I do know one thing even if Patti LaBelle is guilty of the allegations lodged against her the claims that the baby cannot sleep at night because of this incident are ridunkulous!!!!!
The couple lives in a Manhattan building where the Grammy Award-winning singer stayed for a time while appearing in the Broadway musical “Fela!” last fall. According to reports, Ms. LaBelle chastised Mrs. Monk for letting the toddler walk away from her while she grappled with bags and a car seat in the lobby.
After Mrs. Monk scooped up the child and told Ms. LaBelle it was none of her business, the singer threw water on them from and then launched into an obscenity-filled tirade.
Police reports state that Mrs. Monk made a remark to Ms. LaBelle, and the singer charged at her and tried to hit her. According to Davis, Thats when Patti lost it and she lunged…. tried to punch her and had to be restrained by her entourage. The bodyguard had to get out and drag Patti into the car.
The Monks filed a complaint with police but no arrests were made.
Ms. LaBelle also reportedly snubbed a request by the couple to apologize for the incident and make a donation to a children’s cancer charity. Ms. LaBelle’s publicists and lawyer did not immediately respond to Kevin and Roseanna Monk’s lawsuit.
The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, comes five months after a West Point cadet sued Ms. LaBelle over a Houston airport scuffle with her bodyguards.
