The Trumpet Awards heralds the accomplishments of Black Americans who have succeeded against immense odds. (much to Stacy Dash’s dismay, I’m certain). Special recognition is given to the few, who symbolize the many, who have overcome the ills of racism and poverty and achieved special greatness.

The event was truly inspirational and a testament as to why we must continue to celebrate ourselves and not allow anyone to diminish our accomplishments.  That’s the good news.  The bad news, media had to stand outdoors for red carpet interviews and photos for approximately 3-4 hours in 30-degree weather!  There were only about three heating lamps around and, of course, no where near the majority of media outlets.  To add insult to injury due to the unusually brisk Atlanta weather, many celebs opted out of even walking the red carpet and were rushed inside where warmth awaited them.  Honestly, I couldn’t feel my hands and toes by the time we went inside.  If the Trumpet Awards is going to continue to be presented in January, I would suggest heated outdoor tents for the red carpet or move it inside.

Shout out to comedian Jonathan Slocumb who was hilarious and provided much needed comic relief during breaks in taping.  The Trumpet Awards airs tonight, January 29 on Bounce TV at 9PM.
