Georgia Senate Seeks to Pass an Anti-DREAM Bill

SB 458 attempts to modify former House Bill 87 (Georgias Arizona copycat law) to add, among other things, a ban on undocumented youth from attending all public colleges including community and technical colleges.

Even if the supporters of this bill are seeking to criminalize undocumented persons, just how will this benefit Georgia and its already ailing economy? Agricultural businesses are already suffering the economic fallout from HB87!!

Removing undocumented persons from college campuses will not guarantee seats for documented persons and, in fact, may result in lower student populations which ultimately will be bad for the Georgia University system and the Georgia economy as a whole. How does it benefit Georgia to take away the path to an education of an unwitting minor???

Providing this education and a path to becoming documented would ensure a TAXPAYING legal resident – DUH! This modification to HB87 is just plain stupid in my opinion just like the original bill. The Higher Education provisions in Senate Bill 458 would do nothing to solve immigration issues, the perceived problem of undocumented students taking seats from citizen students, or increase employment. Please contact your Senator and ask them to vote NO to the Higher Education provisions in SB 458!
