The second edition of TriStar Nevis brings along another week full of sport events and fun on the island known as the “Queen of the Caribbean”. The 2012 events will be even more interesting for athletes who want to start the season with a whole week of trainings surrounded by their families in a real paradise on earth. Nevis will host several different competitions in one of the earliest destinations of the year worldwide. Special acknowledgement goes out to Reggie Douglas the top cyclist and triathlete in Nevis!

This sports festival starts on March 25th with the StarMile2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts, a 2.5 miles long swim race with 10 years’ tradition in open waters connecting these two islands.

Besides TriStar111 Nevis on March 31st, there will be two other triathlons (TriStar11.1 and TriStar33.3), perfect to get the taste of this sport for the first time or simply to train before the big race. Athletes can also participate in a 5km charity run, contributing to the Pink Lily Cancer Care Nevis. The top ranked triathletes in TriStar111 Nevis 2012 will share a total of $10,000 PRO cash purse, attracting top athletes from US and Europe to come to Nevis.

TriStarWorld Series, for the second consecutive year, returns to Nevis to develop a unique sports week in the outstanding setting that offers the Caribbean in late March. The most important event of this sports festival will be the TriStar111Nevis, won in 2011 by Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack. This year will feature a prize purse of $ 10,000 for the top finishers, attracting a large number of professionals from the US and Europe. TriStar Nevis offers all athletes a week full of activities, making it an ideal destination to enjoy with their families at the beginning of the triathlon season. Every participant will enjoy the pleasant climate and unique natural environment of the Caribbean. The local organizer will offer special packages for athletes who want to spend a week or a long weekend on the island.

“After the huge success of this past year event we are looking forward to welcoming more TriStar athletes and fans to the beautiful island of Nevis in 2012, it does not matter if you are a pro or first timer, you will feel right at home” says Winston Crooke, President of the St Kitts & Nevis Triathlon Federation.
The first sport event will be the tenth anniversary of the StarMile2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts Cross Channel Swim, which will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012. StarMile participants will swim the 2.5 miles (4km) in the Caribbean Sea from one island to the other. This unique open water race will start at the Oualie Beach on Nevis and finish at the Cockleshell Bay on St.Kitts.

TriStar111 Nevis is the most awaited event of the week. The “King” of the TriStar formats will be held on the “Queen of the Caribbean” on Saturday, March 31, 2012, over the 111 format: 1km swimming, 100km cycling and then 10km running. As a novelty in this year, a number of professionals will face this early triathlon thanks to a $10,000 PRO cash purse distributed among the top ranked athletes, shared according to the ITU rules.

TriStar11.1 Nevis will be held on Friday March 30th. This race represents a perfect distance for a first triathlon, easily achievable in terms of distance (100 meter swim, 10 km bike and 1 km run). The TriStar33.3 will be held on Nevis the same day as the TriStar111. A very “electric” version of the TriStar formats, faster and more fun! Wednesday March 28th brings a charity fun-run over 5km which will raise both funds and awareness of the fight against cancer. In cooperation with Livestrong™, funds will be collected for the Pink Lily breast cancer foundation with the vision to provide quality cancer care in Nevis.

The 36-square-mile (93km2) island of Nevis lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles(322km) south of Puerto Rico, and just west of Antigua. This island jewel is approximately 7 miles long and 5 miles wide, with natural vegetation that is unparalleled. Green and serene, Nevis is truly one of the remaining unspoiled places and proudly carries the name “Queen of the Caribbean.” From the top of the 3,232-foot (985m) Nevis Peak to the depths of the clear waters offshore, there is a world of flora and fauna to be explored.

The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specializing in organizing high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection.
