Carnival 2017, much like 1986 and more recently 2010, will forever be remembered for one song. In 1986 it was David Rudder’s “Bahia Girl” on the tip of every lip. In 2010 JW & Blaze’s “Palance” dictated the side to side movement of the festival. This year it was all about the Rejects’ call to party to the “Full Extreme”.

Three other significant things occurred this Carnival season. Veteran calypso composer and singer Chalkdust (Dr Hollis Liverpool) won a record ninth Calypso Monarch title making him the most prolific in the genre’s history. Voice doubled up with his second International Soca Monarch (ISM) title to live up to the potential of his talent. And Fireball showed there was still fire in his belly with a winning performance of his self-penned “Calypso Music” at the Young Kings Calypso competition.
