Toots & the Maytals came to Atlanta this week and gave concert goers their monies’ worth! Allthough the legendary singer ‘Toots’ will not reveal his age and jokes that he is “hundreds odd years” old, he is a timeless performer. “The older you get, everything becomes easier.”
His performance was surprisingly energetic. According to Toots, his electrifying performances come from his parents. “I follow my parents footsteps. They teach me manners and respect. Once I have manners and respect to my fellow man and God, from there I know how to do things to make people happy and to respect my audience and to gain their respect. So I know what to do”
The first time I saw Toots & the Maytals was a long time ago laying on a blanket in Montego Bay, Jamaica at Reggae Sunsplash. I honestly don’t remember any of the other artists who performed that day. His performance was electrifying, musically pleasing and obviously memorable! It was the moment that I absolutely fell in love with this thing called ‘reggae’, the word coined by Toots himself!
Toots & the Maytals are on a tour promoting their latest studio album Flip and Twist released this past spring.. You can purchase the album at http://www.tootsandthemaytals.com. The tour ends November 20th in Miami at Bayfront Park when Toots & the Maytals perform on the BAYSIDE ROCKS MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL along with Bunny Wailer, Steel Pulse, Marcia Griffiths and others.
In December, Toots will perform for 40 million viewers in the UK on BBC 2s Jools Holland Hootenanny show for New Years Eve to close a very busy 2010 for one of Jamaicas greatest musical ambassadors and Reggae Legend.
