This Valentine’s Day, one billion people of all genders, ages, and races in almost every country around the planet will rise up in a dance strike…. a world-wide flash mob to demand an end to violence against women. Every single country in the world is rising. Incas in Peru are rising. 25 million women in Bangladesh are rising. The German senate is rising. The French parliament is rising. MTV is rising. In Atlanta, Mayor Kassim Reed, Ted Turner, and Valerie Jackson are rising. Over 100 greater Atlanta / Dekalb organizations are rising – from the Atlanta Ballet to 11 Alive to Amnesty International Southern Region.
1 in 3 women and girls on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. One billion women and girls violated is an atrocity. One billion women, girls, and the men and boys who love them dancing is a REVOLUTION.
