New York Times best-selling author Lisa Williamson aka Sister Souljah, is the voice of the people. This activist, rapper, turned author has released her 5th novel entitled “ A Moment of Silence MIDNIGHT III (Simon & Schuster). To help support promotion of her book was her good friend and Mayor of Newark , New Jersey, Ras Baraka. The book signing and panel discussion was held at NJPAC (New Jersey Performing Arts Center) and moderated by Power 105.1 radio host Angela Yee of the popular syndicated morning show The Breakfast Club.
Sister Souljah, known for her outspokenness and wittiness brought exactly that to the discussion. She talked about her journey through college, friendships, relationships and the generation of today. Upon talking about the book, she described her main character, Midnight in the book as being in chains. He is incarcerated and chained by his hands and feet and bound to other men. She said much like when Africans were taken from the motherland, chained and not knowing the others that were captured as well. A moment of silence is something else she spoke about. Sometimes we just need to be silent and think about things or just be silent and let things fall into place for you to have an epiphany.
The evening closed with Sister Souljah signing her books that were on display for sale that included her autobiography “No Disrespect”, “The Coldest Winter Ever”, “Midnight: A Gangster Love Story”, ”Midnight and the Meaning of Love”, “A Deeper Love Inside”, to her latest novel “A Moment of Silence Midnight III”. It was a fun and insightful evening that drew people from all walks of life from local Newark residents to prominent lawyer and civil right activist, C. Vernon Mason. Sister Souljah continues to be successful in all that she does. I am sure this book will do well as she has a strong following since we all were hooked from her New York Times Best Seller “The Coldest Winter Ever”. We are still waiting for that movie (wishful thinking).
