For those out there that argue that racism doesn’t exist anymore, I’m here to tell you not only does it still exist, its being published and circulated in the media! Bajan popstar Rihanna was called the ultimate “n—- bitch” by a white Dutch magazine IDIOT editor. There’s no woman I know of that’s going to take that well, especially a Caribbean woman. Rihanna fired back with a well-worded and well written tweet:
“@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print!” Rihanna wrote. “There are 1000’s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense … ‘N—a Bitch’?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you … F— YOU!!!
Here’s the translation of what the white Dutch editor wrote about Rihanna:
“She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate n***a bitch and she displays that gladly — for her that means what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on the stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren’t like Jamaican ones, so pick a clothing style in which your daughter can resist minus ten [temperatures]. No to the big sunglasses and the pornheels, and yes to the tiger print, pink ‘shizzle,’ and everything that glitters. Now let’s hope she won’t beat anybody up at daycare.”
This is WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS!!!!! First of all calling a multi-platinum, successful popstar a “n***a bitch” is not only racist, disrespectful and insulting it promulgates hatred. The fashion magazine “Jackie” is circulated to loads of young, impressionable ladies in Europe. Then she goes on t call Rihanna “ghetto”! And further discredit her by saying that she’s “half naked” presumably because of the warm Jamaican winters even though Rihanna is from Barbados! This woman is really an effn idiot! Then she infers that Rihanna may get violent by beating someone up at “daycare”…really??
The Editor-inChief, Eva Hoecke tried to apologize my saying it was a joke, albeit a distasteful one it was not meant maliciously. However, there was outrage all over the social media world and Hoecke subsequenty resigned. Here’s the apology and resignation (translated):
APOLOGY: “We are of course very fed up over this and especially very shocked. However I’m glad that we’re engaging in a dialogue on this page — not everybody does that,” Hoeke said in a translated response. “Thanks for this. Other than that I can be brief about this: this should have never happened. Period. While the author meant no harm — the title of the article was intended as a joke — it was a bad joke, to say the least. And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief’s, fingers. Stupid, painful and sucks for all concerned. The author has been addressed on it, and now I can only ensure that these terms will no longer end up in the magazine.”
RESIGNATION: “I realize that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete description of what me, and also the author of the article, meant. The term ‘n***a bitch’ came from America and we solely used it to describe a style of dress. Because of the enormous pressure through social media I was tempted to promise amendment regarding the language in future issues of Jackie. Apart from that I also offered an rectification. I have now come to the conclusion that rectification is not the right solution. I regret that I have taken a stand too quickly regarding an article in Jackie — which moreover had no racial motive at its basis. Through the course of events, me and the publisher have concluded that because my credibility is now affected, it is better for all parties if I quit my function as editor-in-chief effective immediately. After putting my heart and soul into Jackie for eight years, I realize that these errors – although not intended maliciously – are enough reason for leaving.”
I’m almost even more offended by the apology!!! Really, the author meant no harm by calling somone a “n—a bitch?” You meant no harm, but harm is just what you may expect if you call somebody that back in Rihanna’s home country of Barbados! The editor states that it was meant to describe a “style of dress”. When’s the last time you saw N—a Bitch on the catwalk in New York or Paris??? It was a “joke”? This doesn’t even deserve a response from me!
