Of all of the shows that I have ever attended in my history of New York Fashion Week, this by far has to be my favorite one! Anniesa Hasibuan is an Indonesian designer who is of the Muslim faith, and a fashion visionary. Who would have thought that you could make wearing a hijab so fashionable? Well she did exactly that!
Hasibuan’s trend setting head wraps (hijabs), jackets, dresses and tops, pants and cloaks (abayas) were not your everyday traditional Muslim attire. She managed to add some swagger to a usually very conservative look. From the blinged out glasses to the metallic and rhinestone embellished garments there was nothing that was not touched with her magic wand of fabulousness! Big sash styled belts and statement jewelry put the finishing touches on these outfits.
This has been the first time ever that hijabs was modeled at New York Fashion Week. The audience squealed with joy and gave her a standing ovation after her designs paraded down the runway. No longer are just your basic black and beige the only options for women of the Islamic culture. Prints and vibrant colors are here to waken up their wardrobe! Hasibuan has certainly put her mark on the fashion world in the one year that she has been on the scene. I only see her being bigger and better at her craft as she continues on this path of success.
