Donisha Prendergast is the eldest granddaughter of reggae music’s most iconic couple Rita and Bob Marley. Donisha recently visited Atlanta along with her brother Biggz General as part of the African Diaspora Tourism Awards. Donisha, the daughter of Sharon Marley (The Melody Makers) screened her documentary “RasTa: A Soul’s Journey”. To say that the documentary was moving and captivating would be an understatement!!!
Rasta: A Soul’s Journey depicts Donisha’s travels to eight (8) countries around the world in search of Rastafari. Donisha discovers that her grandfather’s message of Rastafari and reggae music have reached to all corners of the earth! My favorite moment is during Donisha’s visit to Israel! A Jewish man describes that Rastafarian for him is a way of life. We also get to witness the Rastafarian Jews expressing themselves through reggae music along with Donisha….its a magical moment!
The documentary is described as an “exciting mix of travel, music and culture” packing “a powerful punch that will appeal to audiences around the world.” I concur! Donisha is wise beyond her years and, in fact, an attendee described her as having an old soul and having “been here before”. The soft spoken mild mannered Marley delivers a powerful punch not only via the documentary but through her message of unity and love through Rastafarianism. Donisha clearly has her granddfather’s gene’s in that she quickly establishes a personal connection to whomever her audience is.
The documentary is still touring so check your local area listings to see if Donisha’s RasTa: A Soul’s Journey will be in a city near you!
