The BET “HIP HOP AWARDS” has remained the most prominent hip hop showcase on television for ten years with its powerful performances, iconic hip hop honorees and much-anticipated cyphers. Multi-platinum artist, mega-producer and ‘Anthem King’ DJ Khaled will take the reins as host of the BET “Hip Hop Awards” 2016.
The red carpet arrivals were fire and some of the artists such as T.I. and Lecrae were on fire with very socially conscious performances.
Typically, my favorite part of the show is the cyphers however I have to say that this year I was disappointed. I will let you be the judge but I expected a lot more. Even my son who came along for the ride was not impressed.
For me, the highlight of the evening was Snoop Dogg receiving the The “I Am Hip Hop” Award and receiving it from Kendrick Lamar! Snoop told the young doggizzles that young black men were “misunderstood” but that they should still continue to be themselves and not change for anyone. That is what he said has been the cornerstone of his success, just being himself.
Another highlight of the night was the highly anticipated return of Gucci Mane!. Presenters for the BET “HIP HOP AWARDS” 2016 include the star of Empire and BET’s The New Edition Story, Bryshere Y. Gray and rapper and actor Shameik Moore.
The BET “Hip Hop Awards” will premiere on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
