Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off this week with a bang! The Mongol collection by one of the newest designers on the scene, Bayarmaa Bayarkhuu was absolutely amazing! The show opens with a traditional morin khuur (Mongolian version of a guitarist) which lead into a collaboration with a Mongolian rapper. It was a beautiful way to joined music, art and fashion. The designer featured her very versatile collection which infused her Mongolian heritage with modern world fashions. Bayarkhuu was born in Mongolia and started a small fashion house in 2005 and built her brand to what it is today. She is the creative director and her design focus is on woman’s ready to wear as well as wedding dresses and outerwear.
Her designs were eclectic for those of us who like to walk on the wilder side of fashion, but she also had some classic and contemporary pieces for the more conservative girl. The colors were rich and vibrant and the furs embodied the garb of the Mongolian esthetics when it comes to fashion. Every detail in her collection was thought out carefully. Her intricate detailing in a few of her laser cut designs to the accessories was flawless! I can see some of today’s “It Girls” like Rihanna and Beyoncé wearing the Mongol collection. The designs definitely left a mark and made a statement. Here a few of the looks from the fashion show.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runs from Thursday, February 12-19th at Lincoln Center in New York City.
