According to the United Nations (UN) it is! Trinidad and Tobago has been named the “happiest” Caribbean nation again by the United Nations (UN).
Its vibrant lifestyle, dynamic culture, booming business center, strong government and, of course, largest Carnival celebration in the Caribbean are amongst the reasons the two island nation has been given the top honors as happiest Caribbean island.
Now, I know what you’re thinking what about the other 35 Caribbean nations with vibrant lifestyles and dynamic cultures??!!. What with Jamaica’s music and cuisine (after all Bob Marley is an icon of legendary status!), the Virgin Islands’ world renowned beaches (not to mention I’m from there!), Puerto Rico’s rain forest (which looks even better with Puerto Rico’s Bacardi rum!), St. Lucia’s esteemed music festival, and, for goodness sake, Rihanna is from Barbados. Who’s more happy than Riri — have you seen her Instagram? So how and why is Trinidad the ‘happiest” Caribbean nation. Here’s what the Tourism Development Company had to say in a statement.
“Trinidad and Tobago’s flourishing culinary scene and year round festivals, combined with local steel pan and soca music and picturesque beaches, bring out the happiness in both locals and visitors alike. Whether sampling world-renowned street food on Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain, wining to the music at cultural and food festivals, getting a taste of adventure in the mountains of Trinidad or unwinding on Pigeon Point beach in Tobago, Trinbagonians have plenty of reasons to smile,”
~Tourism Development Company (TDC)
And with 15 and counting, TnT also has the distinction of being among the top ten countries in the world for the number of public holidays. (Oh gosh, when do Trinbagonians have time to do anything!)
The World Happiness Report aims to help country leaders recognize the importance of happiness and well-being for the success of the world and sustainable development, the TDC stated.
Researchers examined 11 areas essential to happiness and well-being, including health, education, local government, personal security, income and overall satisfaction with life.
Trinidad and Tobago was also the top-ranked Caribbean nation in the previous Happiness Report, published in 2013, the TDC said.
