UPDATE: The Caribbean Carnival “special” edition of 106 & Park aired earlier this week on Tuesday. Not sure if we will see it on 106 & Park at its regularly scheduled time slot but I will keep you up-to-date.
If you didn’t know, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have temporarily shut 106 & Park! Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit and that’s not exactly what happened, but hunty what had happened was that the BeyHive (that’s Beyoncé’s fans if you’re not aware!) went crazy when a disparaging remark was made about Blue Ivy’s hair during BET’s hit countdown show 106 & Park. As a result, THE Caribbean Carnival Takeover with megastars of dancehall, reggae and soca Gyptian, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man (who performed at last year’s BET Awards),emerging newcomer, Kranium and soca superstars, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons was aired as a “special” edition of 106 & Park at a different time slot because 106 & Park is on an unscheduled hiatus.
The distasteful comment made by Chris Brown’s girlfriend Karrueche Tran happened during a segment called “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought At The VMAs“. “I really did wake up like this, because my parents never comb my hair,” she joked, later adding, “Sorry Blue! I love you.” Tran has been receiving death threats ever since. The ire is very misdirected because it was a scripted comment written by 106 & Park writers not Tran. BET took responsibility for the comment when its President, Stephen Hill, stepped forward and apologized on behalf of the network:

I just don’t understand why can’t folks leave Blue Ivy’s hair alone? What is Beyoncé supposed to do weave her baby’s hair? Blue Ivy Carter is absolutely adorable and it is shameful that 106 & Park thought it was ok to make a toddler’s hair media fodder. But even worse is that no one had enough forethought to know there would be repercussions for making fun of the child of two of the world’s most popular AND powerful entertainers! Yall besta not fux with the BeyHive again or you will be stung again! And, if you do, could you please wait until AFTER the Caribbean takeover? Apparently, the show was taped already and should air some time soon but everybody was looking for it TODAY!
RCS SIDEBAR: Bow Wow suggested this hiatus was planned when he tweeted:
“every tv show goes on hiatus. We do this every fall. Gives me time to film CSI”
This may be true but not according to Bunji Garlin’s recent tweet:
“Everything packed and ready to step over to 106 and Park. Get ready to see the performances August 27th by yours truly the Vikingz and also with Fay-Ann Lyons, A$AP Ferg, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, Kranium, Gyptian and more. It’s the Carnival Take-over Labour Day style and it is going to be WILD. We are stepping to represent as one people for one people.”
