The 19-year-old Kirani James, son of the ‘Spice Isle’ Grenada blasted away to win in a personal best of 43.94 seconds, with fellow teenager Luguelin Santos of Dominican Republic in second place.
In only 44 seconds, James garnered his country’s first Gold medal in the mens 400 meter.
Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago took the bronze. James said: “It means a lot. Grenada will be going crazy right now.” James is currently the eighth fastest man in history over one lap. The Caribbean dominated this race…Congrats to the Caribbean Diaspora! Big up Grenada!!
