Unfortunately, on Wednesday afternoon police arrested reggae star Denroy Morgan, patriarch of the Morgan Heritage first family of reggae on drug charges. I hate to be reporting on another reggae artist going to jail (especially an elder veteran) but according to the New York Daily News, Denroy Morgan was spotted by police leaving a building with what appeared to be a brick of weed.
After police subsequently stopped Morgan for running a stop sign and smelled a strong smell of ganga, Morgan allegedly admitted to being in possession of a trunk load of marijuana.
Police then returned to the home to find another man leaving with a package. Police stopped Wayne Swavy, 46, for not wearing a seat belt and found an additional 16 pounds of ganja in his car. Upon entering the home, police reportedly seized 350 lbs of weed was found with a street value of $150K-$350K. Both Morgan and Swavy were charged with criminal possession of marijuana. At his arraignment, Morgan was held in lieu of $8,000 bail.
Morgan is the father of 30 children, including five who in 1994 formed the popular reggae band Morgan Heritage.
