Kingston, Jamaica: Grammy award-winning artiste, Damian „Jr Gong.
Marley has been on both a revolutionary and evolutionary journey
especially since the start of 2012.The young Marley will be hitting the
Reggae Sumfest stage on the final night of the Festival and plans to turn
up the heat with his mega hits Affairs of the Heart and Set Up Shop, as
well as a slew of other favourites.
Damian „Jr. Gong. Marley has been stirring up the reggae music airways
since the release of his debut album, Mr. Marley, in 1996. The artiste is
best known for his timeless hits It Was Written, Half Way Tree, Welcome
to Jamrock, Road to Zion, The Mission, and has steadily been evolving.
The singer.s journey has been like that of his father, Bob Marley; in that,
Jr. Gong fits his time. The young artiste speaks to his listeners through his
music and is evidently very passionate about the messages expressed.
Earlier this year, he flipped the switch and released a love song, Affairs of
the Heart, which has planted itself in the minds of its listeners, like Bob
Marley.s Turn Your Lights Down Low. In following Jr. Gong.s career, it
is possible to see growth and development in all aspects.
Symbolically, Damian Marley will be performing on International Night
Two at the 20th staging of Reggae Sumfest, during the celebration of
Jamaica 50. The artiste.s presence will showcase an evolved Marley,
representing all the Marley brothers currently in the music business,
continuing the Marley legacy.
In addition to that portrayal, Jr. Gong will be showing also, the Marley
clan.s contribution to Jamaica.s rich musical culture which began with the
formation of the Wailers. The Wailers, the legendary Reggae group which
consisted of Bob Marley, Perter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, will be
represented by the only living legend of the three -Bunny Wailer – on the
Saturday night.
When asked how he feels about being a part of this year.s staging, Bunny
Wailer expressed that it “Feels good being a part of this fiftieth
anniversary [celebration]…and a part of the 20th staging of Reggae
Sumfest.” Bunny Wailer will also be honoured at this staging.
Sumfest patrons will get the opportunity to witness an evolved Damian
Marley, who in his revolutionary and now „gangsta-loving. style, will
represent the evolution of Marley music through the decades.
The week of activities kicks off with a Beach Party on Sunday, July 15.
The musical celebration will resume on Thursday, July 19 with the
steaming Dancehall Night.
