Call for USVI Applicants for DOT’s Summer 2015 Internship Program in New York

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism (DOT) is seeking applicants for its summer 2015 internship in New York City. Co-sponsored with the DOT’s U.S.-based public relations agency of record, Development Counsellors International (DCI), the program provides a Virgin Islander the opportunity to develop skills and obtain experience to pursue a career in tourism marketing. The chosen intern will play an important role in promoting the U.S. Virgin Islands to a national audience, helping to increase visitor arrivals and tourism spending in the territory.

Candidates must be from the Virgin Islands and a recent graduate or in their final year of study at an accredited undergraduate or graduate university program with a major in marketing, mass communications, public relations and/or tourism studies. Qualified applicants must poses sound writing and verbal communication abilities, exceptional organization skills and have an eye for detail. A proven ability to adapt to new, fast-paced conditions, adhere to deadlines for assigned tasks and exude a positive, “go-getter” attitude will also ensure success in this role. It is recommended that applicants also be able to illustrate their deep knowledge of the U.S. Virgin Islands and its unique offerings.

The chosen candidate will receive round-trip air to New York City and a monthly stipend to cover housing, transportation and other living expenses. The summer intern will support the USVI account team at DCI’s New York office from June through August 2015, on a full-time basis. Daily tasks will include, but will not be limited to press release and pitch writing, media outreach, assisting with event planning and trade show logistics, drafting and editing client documents and assisting with media coverage reporting.
