Grammy-award winning reggae superstar Buju Banton heads back to court tomorrow Oct. 30. Buju Banton (née Mark Anthony Myrie) is facing an additional five years pursuant to recent conviction on a gun charge. However, in addition to the gun charge sentencing, Buju’s new attorney, Chokwe Lumumba, is asking the judge in the case to reconsider the entire prison sentence.
In a motion filed last week with US District Judge James Moody, Lumumba is seeking a reduced sentence. Buju’s former attorney, David O. Markus filed a letter along with the motion stating that the Jamaican artist deserved a reduced sentence because this was a first time conviction, by a non-violent offender with “the support of his entire country” and a history of charitable works.
RCS SIDEBAR: A Buju Banton press conference and rally is planned for Monday, November 5 by activists, friends and supporters Washington, DC. Check back for more details!!!
