The self-proclaimed “King of the Dancehall” Beenie Man released a video to address the ongoing critisicms he has received from the gay and lesbian community.

“Do not fight against me for some songs I sing 20 years ago,” he said.  There is no one in this world is the same as they were 20 years ago, I know I am not. I was a kid, yeah, and I come from Waterhouse, which is a small community. I never know what the world is like and what the world is all about. But now I know that people live in the world that live their life differently from my life. I still have to respect and love human beings.”  So please I’m begging you, do not have me up for what,. songs that I wrote, some old songs that I wrote long time.  Just love the music and respect the music and I love and respect each and everyone and I’m just asking everyone to do the same.   Love, peace and manners, and music  Selassie I”

Beenie Man is basically asking for understanding for lyrics written by a young man who was not exposed to other cultures and lifestyles.   He’s grown as a human being and wants people to move on from the stance he held over two decades ago.  I concur!!

I’m sure all of us have some things in our past that we regret and hope others will forgive us and understand that our past experiences help us to become better human beings.
