The Trinifly promotion team produced their 12th Anniversary of Caribbean music at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey on August 12, 2017.  This year, there was a smaller crowd than usual. In past years, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Shaggy or Beenie Man have filled  the venue to capacity, but the avid and loyal soca lovers in attendance and had a good time regardless of numbers.

The show started with a young woman named Sedaya.  She has a great voice and is someone to look out for.  She was followed by two soca singers One Voice and the other Voice. I will never mix them up again!  One Voice sang “When she come back” soca with a base line. Voice sings “Cheers to Life”…with the familiar lyrics “from you wake up this morning you’s s ah winner”.  Both great artists.  Voice informed us he was a songwriter and wrote Machel Montano’s hit songs “Vibes Cyah Done” and “Bottle of Rum” and Kerwin Dubois’ “Too Real”, to name a few.

One of my favorite artists of the year MX Prime aka Ultimate Rejects, aka Maximus Dan of Soca Warrior, and Soca Train, he returned with the hit of the year “Full Extreme”.  My friends and I can’t sit still when we hear that tune along with all of Trinidad, Miami, Brooklyn,Toronto and everywhere else in between.  MX Prime came on stage 80 pounds lighter and full of energy.

Last year at Six Flags was boiling hot but this August Saturday afternoon was a little cool and cloudy, overcast but the rhythms warmed us up.  By the time R. City brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas from the USVI came on stage the crowd was eager to keep dancing.  The brothers were very popular with the younger folk and informed us that they had written Rhianna’s hit “Man down” and wrote and produced for such stars as Nikki Minaj and Ariana Grande.  Their biggest hit as a performing group is “Would you still love me the same” a collab with Adam Levine.  All in all an enjoyable show.  I asked the promotion team if we will see Machel again.  They said they are working on it!
