The Gaza Empire kingpin, Vybz Kartel, has had his music banned from Guyana’s airwaves. The ban was announced yesterday and the reason given from a spokesperson for the state-owned, National Communications Network is that Kartel’s music is too obscene and too violent. This announcement comes on the heels of a Vybz Kartel no show last month at a show in Georgetown, Guyana.

Vybz Kartel

That was the second time that Adidja Vybz Kartel Palmer was a no show in the past few months. Although the radio stations are claiming this is as a result of his musical content being too obscene and too violent, I’m not buying it!!! I think its retribution for not showing up for his performances. Here’s what Kartel had to say about it:

Its interesting, especially since that same radio station did a concert with me based on the fact that, and I quote, The Guyana people dont want to see nobody but you. Unfortunately, I didnt attend the show and that is the reason why the ban on my music was imposed. With that being said, I care zero about them and their ban because I wont be visiting Guyana ever, Kartel told the Jamaica STAR.

If they thought he was so violent and obscene why did they book him for performances in the first place??? If they’re going to not play Vybz then we need to look at a whole host of other artists that could be banned because of violence and obscenity in their music. Rihanna just shot a “Man Down”, should she be banned?? I’m just sayn, let’s call a spade a spade.

Anyhoo given Kartel’s other statement, I’m sure it will be a long time before he’s ever invited back: , I refused to go there before the ban was imposed so that ban wasnt necessary. I banned myself. Big up the Guyanese Gaza fans but I would sooner tour Iraq than go to Guyana.
