They say: “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” and the Magnum Kings & Queens team believe that too. With just one change this year, the return of Pretty Boy Floyd to Digicel Di Endz, the 6th season of the number one Dancehall Live show will continue to bring authentic Dancehall talent to the fore.
Executive Producer, Mark Kenny, commented: “The return of Pretty Boy Floyd is not so much a change but rather a return to a winning formula. We honestly believe that the show works, the people love it and so we don’t want to run the risk of changing each year and alienating our true fans. We will continue to give the people what they want, how they want it.”
As with the past 2 years, the three resident judges: Miss Kitty, Scatta Burrell and Professor Nuts, have selected the Top 24 finalists for Lives from the 5 auditions held in December 2012, ensuring that the best talents from the auditions get to showcase their stuff on the live stage. The 24 finalists will be grouped into two Castles: Castle Red and Castle Blue, with 12 finalists (6 princes + 6 princesses) to each Castle.
Keeping the format of the show’s full dancehall content, the fierce weekly Fashion Segment will return along with the competition for the designers. Each week the show showcases a different designer with a different swag. The fashion designers (up and comers and veterans) all have different styles, all bringing their own creativity to the show. After every live show, pictures from the featured designer’s collection will be posted on the Magnum Kings & Queens Facebook page. When the 14 live shows are completed, an album will be created featuring all the designers with their collection. Fans will then be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite designer; the winning designer will win the grand prize of J$50,000.
The 1st Live show for Season 6 of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall happens this Saturday January 19 on TVJ at 9:30PM. And bringing it all together is your host Yanique, the Curvaceous Diva who embodies the fluidity and Energy of the Dancehall culture.
