The 2011Atlanta Carnival Queen was named this weekend and Bahamas took home the crown! Congratulations to Nadia Olivia Barr. All of the young ladies competing for the title did an outstanding job and all deserve to be commended for their hard work and effort. The other Carnival Queen Pageant contestants included Samentha Champe (Haiti), Natasha Cline (Guyana), Carissa Lawrence and Trudy McGann (Jamaica).

The ladies competed in several areas including talent, question and answer, swimwear and, of course, evening wear. In addition, to being crowned the 2011 Atlanta Carnival Queen, Nadia Barr also took home several other titles including Best Evening Wear, Best Talent, Best Cultural Presentation, Peoples Choice Award and the coveted Miss Congeniality. Miss Photogenic and 2nd runner up went to Carissa Lawrence, 1st Runner up Natasha Cline also won Miss Entrepreneur.

Nadia certainly exemplified the poise, grace and intelligence required to represent as Atlanta as the Carnival Queen. Nadia is preparing for graduation from Georgia State and I’m certain her future is bright!

Congratulations are also in order for the other Atlanta Carnival Pagaent winners: Serena Turnquest (Bahamas) who won the Junior Miss Carnival title and the Carnival Princess winner Priya Mungroo (Trinidad).

Carnival pageants are integral to the whole Carnival experience. As such, I’m pleased that the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival organizers have chosen to include this in Atlanta. Shout out to Junia, Patricia, Gary and the whole ACCBA crew.
