Twenty seven Latin and Caribbean artists are among the nominees for the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
Miguel, the son of a Mexican father and an African American mother, picked up five nominations, including for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for “Adorn” and for Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Kaleidoscope Dream.”
While sexy Bajan star, Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” was nominated in the Best Pop Solo Performance category while “Talk That Talk” was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
In the reggae category, Jimmy Cliff’s “Rebirth,” Sean Paul’s “Tomahawk,” The Original Wailers “Miracle” and Sly & Robbie & The Jam Masters’ “New Legend – Jamaica 50th Edition,” grabbed the nomination for Best Reggae Album.
Raúl Lara Y Sus Soneros’ “Cubano Soy;” Eddie Montalvo’s “Desde Nueva York A Puerto Rico,” Marlow Rosado Y La Riqueña’s “Retro” and Romeo Santos’ “Formula Vol. 1” grabbed the nominations for Best Tropical Latin Album.
The nominees for Best Latin Jazz Album went to “Flamenco Sketches” by Chano Domínguez, “¡Ritmo!” by The Clare Fischer Latin Jazz Big Band, “Multiverse” by the Bobby Sanabria Big Band, “Duos III” by Luciana Souza and “New Cuban Express” by Manuel Valera New Cuban Express.
Ricardo Arjona for “Independiente,” Fonseca’s “Ilusión,” the self titled “Kany Garcia” by Kanye Garcia, “¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?” by Jesse Y Joy and the “MTV Unplugged Deluxe Edition” by Juanes were nominees for The Best Latin Pop Album while the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album are “Campo” by Campo, “Déjenme Llorar” by Carla Morrison; “Imaginaries” by Quetzal; “Electro-Jarocho” by Sistema Bomb and “La Bala” by Ana Tijoux.
The nominees for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano) were Pecados Y Milagros by Lila Downs; Sembrando Flores by y Los Cojolites; 365 Días by Los Tucanes De Tijuana, Oye by Mariachi Divas De Cindy Shea and El Primer Ministro by Gerardo Ortiz.

Nominations for the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced Wednesday night, Dec. 5th, by The Recording Academy and reflected an eclectic mix of the best and brightest in music over the past year, as determined by the voting members of The Academy.
The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West top the nominations with six each; the Black Keys, Chick Corea and Miguel each garner five nods; and producer Jeff Bhasker, mastering engineer Bob Ludwig and Nas are each up for four awards.
Meanwhile, The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, Fun, Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West led the diverse field with six GRAMMY nominations each while Chick Corea and Miguel earn five nominations each.
The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on GRAMMY Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
